Foreword
By Mary Ellen Searcy
As
a retired needlework teacher, I am delighted to write a forward
for this book My Canvas Embroidery Book.
When I first began stitching on canvas I remember having many
questions, many which were answered by subsequent reading.
After I joined some needlework guilds, I found out that many
hints, correct usage and other information about needlework
is passed down from teacher to student. Needlework teachers
would like to impart all of these bits of knowledge in each
class, but this is impossible. This book answers that
need for knowledge on materials and techniques, necessary
for the information hungry beginner.
She has a great section on color, design, and the Principles
and Elements of design, all of which should be slowly learned
by the stitcher [note I did not say designer]. All of
this in one book instead of having to purchase three or four
books! Other sections give concise information on threads,
how to use them, stitch families, and how to being and end
threads for each... it varies....
What Susan has done with this book is to collate information
from teachers, books and her research. A great resource
to have, particularly if you don’t have access to classes
taught by national teachers.
